The Vice Lords are a predominately black gang consisting of numerous gang sets each with its own leadership and rank structure. ![]() Although endemic to the Chicago region, the Vice Lords have expanded into neighboring states to advance the gang’s criminal activity, and currently sets have been confirmed in 28 states, with a nationwide membership of nearly 35,000 members and associates. The gang has an estimated 20,000 members throughout the state, both in prison and on the streets. Membership/Hierarchy: As the second largest street gang in Chicago under the People Nation alliance, the Vice Lords represent a major force in Chicago and throughout the state of Illinois. The gang was formed for protection and profit. Originating in south Chicago, Illinois in 1958 by a group of black juveniles who had met at the Illinois Training School for Boys in St. History: The Vice Lords are the oldest and currently one of the most dominant and organized criminal enterprises in the state of Illinois. These areas are home to many gangs and cliques in Memphis, as well as several apartment complexes such as Ridgecrest and various hoods including Spring Valley, Timberlake, and Schoolfield (SkoolField).Vice Lords, aka: Vice Lord Nation, Conservative Vice Lords, Imperial Vice Lords, Insane Vice Lords, Four Corner Hustlers The Frayser area, which is also referred to as the Bay Area, and the Raleigh neighborhoods are large sections that extend from North Memphis. Made famous by Project Pat and a host of others representing North Memphis, the map depicts and at times specifically identifies Memphis gangs and ‘hoods of North Memphis, which includes the areas of Smokey City, Klondike, Hyde Park, Hollywood, Binghampton, and Mitchell Heights, among others. These areas are home to several Memphis gangs such as Pirus, Hoovers, Grape Street Crips, Neighborhood Crips, and others. The regions beyond the initial neighborhoods of South Memphis that are located towards the south of I-240 include Westwood, Walker Homes, Blackhaven (also known as Whitehaven), Riverside, Castalia, and even Southeast Memphis (also known as East Memphis). However, it also is home to previous public housing projects such as LeMoyne Gardens, Fowler Homes, Foote Homes, and Cleaborne Homes. to McLemore to South Parkway, is a historic region that includes iconic neighborhoods like Orange Mound, which were the city’s initial all-black communities.
